LOTO
This course is based on the requirements of OSHA regulation 1910.147.
Hazardous Energy Control (Lockout/Tagout), which protects employees who could be injured as a result of the unexpected release of hazardous energy.
These requirements apply when one or more employees are servicing or maintaining machinery or equipment that could cause injury from unexpected start-up or release of hazardous energy.
Lockout (LOCK) and tagout (TAG) are the primary methods for controlling hazardous energy. They are commonly used when performing work on installation, construction, repair, adjustment, inspection, maintenance, testing, and dismantling of equipment or processes.
Course Content
The objectives of this course are for the participant to be able to:
- Describe the purpose and components of the hazardous energy control program.
- Define “lockout/tagout” and when it is required in the workplace.
- List the forms of energy that may require lockout/tagout.
- Describe training requirements for authorized, affected, and other employees.
- Describe the requirements for periodic inspection and evaluation.
- Identify and give examples of the use of lockout/tagout materials.
- List and describe the basic steps in the lockout/tagout process.
- Describe the procedure for releasing the lockout/tagout.
- Describe the group lockout/tagout process and requirements during shift change.
Lockout/tagout will likely be necessary wherever you work because, after all, almost every workplace includes hazardous energy sources that could injure or kill workers.
